Annual Juried Photography Exhibition opens Feb. 6

The Dearborn Community Arts Council (DCAC) has invited photographers — from hobbyists and beginners to intermediates and professionals — to participate in the Padzieski Art Gallery’s Annual Juried Photography Exhibition, which kicks off the DCAC’s new year on Thursday, Feb. 6.

This yearly competition offers photographers from our region an opportunity to share their work in a professional and prestigious gallery setting. Various awards and prizes are offered, including honorable mentions, as well as an opportunity for art enthusiasts to purchase limited, one-of-a-kind art photography.

This highly anticipated exhibition represents all ages, all interests and all walks of life expressed through the three categories of Color, Black and White and Digitally Altered photography. The remarkable artistic range on display presents a chance to experience the world of photography elevated from simple “picture taking” to a higher level of expression and creativity. While current technology benefits both casual and serious photographers, this exhibition serves as a reminder of the line between fine art and simple observation.

Photography Exhibition 2020 Judge Nik Haskin

Helping to define that line is this year’s judge, Nik Haskin. Haskin is a Dearborn based photographer, graphic designer and independent filmmaker. His other creative work consists of mixed media experimental art as well as science fiction influenced props & set construction. Haskin’s work has been showcased regionally and internationally.

The DCAC thanks Livonia-based PROCAM Photo & Video Gear (www.procam.com) for their generous ongoing support, sponsorship and contribution of prizes for this exhibition.

Buy, sell art at the DCAC’s Art Exchange Aug. 15-18

The DCAC is inviting all art collectors, artists and art enthusiasts to participate in its 4th Annual Art Exchange. This exciting Art Sale is also a fundraiser offering participants a chance to display and sell artwork with a portion of sales benefiting the Padzieski Art Gallery and its many community projects and programs.

With an open invitation to all, the Dearborn Community Arts Council’s Padzieski Art Gallery is holding an Art Exchange and Art Sale on Aug. 15-18 from 12-7 p.m.

This is the fourth Art Sale fundraiser to benefit the gallery and it offers a special opportunity for artists and collectors to sell their art. The Art Exchange also provides a venue for those looking to purchase beautiful gifts of art for the upcoming holidays or just to freshen up their own collections with new art.

The art exchange is a fundraiser for the Dearborn Community Arts Council. There is no admission fee to attend.

How to submit art

The DCAC will choose work from submissions from throughout our region. These works include paintings, prints, photography and other fine and decorative art.  Participating artists and collectors will split proceeds from the sale of their art with the DCAC for support of its various community programs and upkeep of the Padzieski Art Gallery.

Donations of art are also appreciated.

All art must be dropped off Thursday, Aug. 8, Friday, Aug. 9 or Tuesday, Aug. 13 between the hours of 3-7 p.m. at the gallery.

Artwork submitted must be properly wired and ready to hang.

Participants may submit their paperwork for including their art in the exchange by using the form below, or may pick up the form in the gallery.
