Juried Photography Exhibition Open Through Feb. 12

Photographers and art lovers from everywhere enjoy the diversity and creative strength of the DCAC’s Juried Photography Exhibition, showing at the Padzieski Gallery in Dearborn through Feb. 12. Now in its 21st year, this competition appeals to photographers of all ages and at all levels of development in their art, presented with an opportunity to share their work, win cash prizes and sell powerful, one-of-a-kind and limited edition works of art.

The talented artists of this show represent all ages, all interests and all walks of life expressing themselves through the exhibition’s three categories of color, black and white and digitally altered photography. The remarkable artistic range on display presents a chance to experience the world of photography elevated from simple “picture taking” to a higher level of creativity that inspires the experienced as well as the novices in our artistic community.

Technology has made both casual and serious photography more common, but this exhibition serves as a reminder of the fine line between art and observation. To help define that line the DCAC has enlisted two of our area’s favorite award-winning photographers to judge the exhibition; Sylvia Ford and Jonathan Warren. Ms. Ford’s work has been shown and appreciated throughout the U.S. and Japan. As the official photographer for People Dancing and Dancers Company of Ann Arbor, Ms. Ford earned her certification from the New York Institute of Photography, and has been judging competitions in Ohio and Michigan since 2013.

Her judging partner, Mr. Warren, has been a Dearborn-based fine art photographer for more than 35 years, recognized and awarded as a past winner of this exhibition, amongst others. He is also a Scarab Club photography medal winner and past president of the Livonia Camera Club, part of the Greater Detroit Camera Club Council.

Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 2-3 p.m., “Teatime with the Artists” - the DCAC’s regular monthly gallery talk program - will feature discussion with artists from the Juried Photography Exhibition. This informal and entertaining art talk includes tea and sweets and is free to the public without registration. Come learn what inspires and motivates these photographers.

DCAC thanks PROCAM Photo & Video Gear for their generous sponsorship support and contributing prizes to the 2016 Juried Photography Exhibition.
