Dearborn cultural organizations team up to push city’s arts future forward

“Sculpting Dearborn’s Vibrant Future,” a fundraising event, will provide an exciting evening of visual art and live musical performances

The public is invited to be part of Dearborn’s next cultural chapter as two local organizations, the Dearborn Community Fund (DCF) and the Dearborn Community Arts Council (DCAC), host their first-ever joint fundraiser—an evening of art, music and shared purpose.

“Sculpting Dearborn’s Vibrant Future” will be held Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave., Dearborn.

“Throughout the past year, the DCAC and DCF have worked together not only on serving Dearborn’s arts community in the present, but building a stronger arts community for generations to come,” said EmmaJean Woodyard, DCF executive director. “‘Sculpting Dearborn’s Vibrant Future’ is the next step in making that happen.”

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. on the Center’s mezzanine with a champagne reception and an opportunity for guests to be involved in the city’s next artistic endeavor.

On the mezzanine, guests will get a sneak peak of seven “maquettes”—or small-scale models—of sculptures to be displayed throughout the city in 2018-19 as part of Dearborn’s Art in Public Places initiative. They will then have an opportunity to view two additional models and cast a vote for their favorite to assist in the selection of an eighth piece. Sculptors Erik and Israel Nordin of the Detroit Design Center will be present and will do a short presentation about their work.

At 7 p.m., guests will have the unique opportunity to enjoy being served dinner on stage in the Michael A. Guido Theater followed by performances from classical pianist Jacqueline Csurgai-Schmitt and jazz singer Alexa Kalasz.

Tickets are $75 and can be purchased through the DCF by calling 313-943-5478 or online at www.dearborncommunityfund/give-online. Sponsorships are also available and can be viewed on the DCF website.
