Sept. 13-Oct. 10 in the gallery: Works inspired by classic art

The DCAC, in collaboration with Mary’s Artists, presents Inspired By 2.0 in the Padzieski Gallery Sept. 13-Oct 10. The exhibition features works by 11 accomplished and award-winning artists painted from real-life models interpreting themes from classic, historic and modern artwork. It includes works inspired by artists such as Degas, Klimt and Rembrandt and other themes such as Steampunk and the change of the seasons.

“Inspired By 2.0” is a return for Mary’s Artists after a successful 2017 exhibition in Dearborn’s Padzieski Art Gallery, located inside of the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

Gallery hours for this new show are Tuesday through Friday, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Also, new for this show, the gallery will also be open every Saturday, 12 - 3 p.m.

The opening reception will be held Friday, Sept. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mary’s Artists represents more than 20 artists who attend weekly life studio sessions at Step Studios, owned by artist Mary Step. The studio was founded 12 years ago when artists Barbara Eko Murphy and Mary Step met at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and formed a life drawing group. Mary provides the studio, hires models and collects costumes and props. Other participating artists coordinate and encourage artists to show in solo and juried art shows.

Mary’s Artists celebrate their distinctive mix of artists from different disciplines and different walks of life by coming together to form a unique art community and studio experience.  These artists share a passion for the creative sense of community found at this special studio and for recognizing the importance of painting from life.

All this and more will be discussed at the free Opening Party on Friday, Sept. 13.  Refreshments will be served and many of Mary’s Artists will be available to discuss their contributions to the exhibition.
